One of the reasons why I love the Hydrafacial is how clean and invigorated your skin feels when completed!

The Signature HydraFacial $199 … during this 30-minute treatment there’s an exchange that is continuously happening to the skin (Yin and Yang) …a lite suction while exfoliating removes debris (dead cells and blackheads) from the surface while simultaneously bathing the skin with Antioxidants, Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides. This process creates a healthier skin with every 4-6-week treatment.

The Deluxe HydraFacial $250-$295 … a 60-minute treatment that includes all the essentials of the Signature Hydrafacial. An added Booster is applied to address specific skin concerns… CTGF (Growth Factors) a Booster to improve the appearance of skin tone, texture, and elasticity… DermaBuilder a Booster that reduces the appearance of fine lines and Britenol a Booster that minimizes dark spots. This treatment also includes LED Light Therapy to further reduce the visible signs of aging.

While I can tailor any treatment to address your needs, I must tell you about ultimate Queen of treatments…The Platinum HydraFacial $325 … a 90-minute treatment while it includes all the above, we begin the treatment with Mechanical Lymphatic Drainage, a pattern of manipulations performed to the skin that helps remove toxins and detoxify the skin Removing toxic buildup is important to optimize the skins health. I personally love Lymphatic Drainage because it’s not only flushing out the toxins, it relieves excess fluids and diminishes puffiness. A bonus if you have an important event!

I’m very excited to be able to offer a medical grade, resurfacing treatment that provides long term skin health!

I hope I’ve sparked some interest!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call … 860.674.9900

Namaste,

Suzanne

I had a consultation yesterday with a woman in her thirties for acne.  As we sat together discussing her history with skin, she became very emotional.  She told me of her history with Accutane and other medications throughout the years.  Her experience in the past was… “It always comes back!”  A professional running her own business and so frustrated from years of “dealing with it”!  She expressed her desperation with tears saying “I don’t know what else to do.”

I assured her I would do everything I could to help her but to see any change I needed a commitment from her.  I used the analogy of taking care of your skin is like going to the gym, to see change you must be committed!  She committed to monthly extraction, (removing whiteheads and blackheads) and a homecare routine to help manage her oil and sooth her skin.

I guess the reason for sharing this with you is… “we all have something about ourselves that can make us feel less than, that little voice that can sneak up in us and not be kind.  From personal and professional experience when you’re not feeling your best… step back, take a deep breath, seek advice and… be kind to yourself!

Namaste,
Suzanne

Let’s Chat…

Because May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection/ Prevention Month…

I wanted to reach out to all of you!

Working at Farmington Valley Dermatology has opened my eyes to some pretty scary stuff!  We always try and maintain a positive energy in our office, which is crazy busy 90% of the time!  Everyone is doing their (thing), until the bomb drops!

I can feel when bad news is lurking in the office!  Everyone gets quiet and there is a somberness in the air!  A patient has been diagnosed with a potential skin cancer – melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer!  I’m telling you its scarrry!  Never have I been in an office environment that can turn so quickly from being up, to being down:( ((

Skin Cancer is the most common of all cancers here in the U.S.  Over 5.4 million cases of nonmelanoma are treated in more than 3.3 million people.  It’s also the easiest to cure if diagnosed and treated early.  When allowed to progress, it can lead to disfigurement and even death!

Know your body!  Check yourself monthly for any changes in your skin!  Everyone should apply sunblock all year long, young and old!  No excuses allowed!

I can’t express to you in a blog the emotional upheaval when a patient is faced with skin cancer!   Get your yearly skin exam, check yourself monthly and wear sunblock 365 days a year!

No excuses allowed!!!

Namaste,

Suzanne

Pemphigus vulgaris is the most common form of the skin disorder pemphigus.  An autoimmune disease, pemphigus vulgaris is characterized by blisters on the skin as well as the mouth.

While the exact cause is unclear, it is known that for those living with pemphigus vulgaris, their immune system attacks the skin.  The antibodies produced in this process cause skin cells to separate from each other, leaving space for fluid to build and create blisters deep in the epidermis.

This condition typically begins in middle-aged or older adults and most often the blisters begin in the mouth.  The blisters can grow to cover large areas of the skin.  Proper diagnosis of pemphigus vulgaris can be done via visual exam by a board-certified dermatologist and confirmed with a blood test and / or blister biopsy.

Treatment depends on the severity of the condition and often begins with anti-inflammatory medications.  Pemphigus vulgaris can be brought under control with treatments however low doses of medicine may be prescribed for long term use to suppress the condition.  The skin is very sensitive where the blisters are located and in severe cases, precautions need to be taken to avoid infection.  Proper diagnosis and treatment are key in order to keep this condition under control as severe infection can occur should it not be addressed properly.

A leading specialist in the treatment of pemphigus vulgaris and other autoimmune diseases affective the skin, Dr. Waqar works diligently to educate her patients and find the best possible treatment options to suit their needs.  If you have questions about pemphigus vulgaris or suspect you or a loved one may be living with this condition, contact our office at 860-674-9900 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Waqar.

The latest treatment in acne scarring has arrived at Farmington Valley Dermatology and Surgery.  Introducing the only FDA-Approved dermal filler to treat acne scarring:

Offering immediate volume, Bellafill is the only injectable with PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres which establishes a support matrix for your own body's production of collagen resulting in lasting results.  Approved for the correction of nasolabial folds in 2006, Bellafill is now approved to treat severe, atrophic, distensible facial acne scars in patients over 21.  This means if the scars can be flattened by pulling on either side of the skin, they are possible treatment sites.

Acne scarring results from irregular healing of the inflammation caused from acne.  This irregular healing can create a loss of collagen in the site of inflammation leading to a pitted or sunken scar.  Often treated with laser or other fillers, acne scarring can have a strong emotional impact as well.  Many individuals give up or do not seek treatment opitons because they are under the impression they just have to live with it, yet that is no longer the case!

Approved to treat and improve volume in the nasalabial folds in 2006, studies have shown Bellafill's lasting results up to 5 years post-injection.  The PMMA microspheres, only available in Bellafill, are the resason this filler is able to provide longer lasting results than others on the market.

Dr. Waqar is proud to be the first dermatologist to introduce Bellafill to Avon and the surrounding areas.  You don't have to just live with it anymore!  If you're ready to say goodbye to your acne scars, contact our office at 860-674-9900 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Waqar.
